Who is The Foundation Fighting Blindness

The Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB) is a national charity, founded in 1974. We're fighting to restore the gift of sight to those affected by blindness. We fund ground-breaking research at major Canadian hospitals and universities and work to develop funding partnerships aimed at fighting treatments and cures for eye diseases.

Retinal diseases like retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are just two of the many degenerative diseases. But these strike the nation's two most vulnerable populations, children and seniors.

FFB has made great strides in identifying some of the causes of blindness, and is on the cusp of developing treatments that can and will reverse sight loss.

Look at our Progress

We are entering a new era. Years of successful research have brought us to this pivotal point where breakthroughs in retinal science are leading to human clinical trials. The science translates into hope and promise - allowing FFB leaders, donors, volunteers and researchers to be successful in the quest for cures.

Look at our Progress

Who's Affected

RP is hereditary, progressive and currently incurable. RP manifests itself in ever-narrowing tunnel vision. Striking children and young adults, it develops into profound vision loss that lasts a lifetime. Year over year, 3,000 new cases are diagnosed in Canada alone.

Our Vision

To restore the gift of sight to people living with genetic forms of blindness.

Our Mission

To find the causes, treatments and ultimately the cures for retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration and related retinal diseases by supporting research and public awareness.
